Embrace Poultry farming to fight poverty, Namayanja tells Nakaseke residents

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, has rallied the people of Nakaseke to embrace poultry farming as a means of transforming livelihoods and contributing to national development.

Namayanja made these remarks yesterday while addressing farmers from the Billionaires Club, a group under the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church. Namayanja who serves as the chief executive officer of Kande Poultry farm in Semuto town council, Ssebagaala Zone in Nakaseke district shared her journey of raising over 110,000 chickens on less than an acre, attributing her success to efficient methods tailored to her resources.

“On less than an acre of land, I rear over 110,000 chickens but one might ask how I do it, but the answer is very simple. I use the cage system. Under this system, I have saved a lot of chicken feed, and prevented a lot of spread of diseases among others,” Namayanja said.

A prominent politician, Namayanja identifies as “70% a farmer” and encourages practical approaches to poultry. “Small spaces can yield big results if we’re resourceful,” she said, inspiring farmers to explore options within their means.

At the event, Namayanja highlighted that Kande Poultry Farm thrives on three key principles: breed selection, nutrition, and proper management, which she credited for its achievements. “With our climate supporting two farming seasons, poultry can meet local demand and even reach neighboring countries,” she noted. She added that the Billionaires Club has built a strong network of business-minded individuals across sectors like agribusiness, trade, and manufacturing.

“Members of this club actively contribute to Uganda’s development by paying taxes, creating employment, and generating income,” Namayanja said.

She stressed that financial independence is vital, with entrepreneurship as a powerful tool for self-reliance and national progress. “We can’t depend only on politics or formal jobs—business is how we lift ourselves and our communities,” she urged.

Ben Obed, an entrepreneur and poultry farmer, spoke of how a visit to Kande Poultry Farm inspired him to rethink his methods. “Seeing what’s possible pushes us to learn and adapt, whether through technology or simple improvements,” he said, emphasizing the value of staying open to new ideas.

Vincent Kasozi, director of Bangafi Group of Companies, thanked Namayanja for hosting the event, calling it a chance to connect and grow. “Wealth comes from understanding opportunities and making smart choices,” he said, highlighting the importance of knowledge in business.
